“新浪微博”已彻底更名为“微博”，不再有新浪字样。新浪微博更名为微博，其实主要就是要淡化“新浪”色彩，而凸显其作为一家社交平台公司的独立性，这也有助于得到投资人的认可。诞生于2009年的新浪微博，自其诞生至2010年，新浪先后申请了“微博”、“围脖”以及“weibo”的商标；2011年，新浪继续在美国递交了“微博”、“weibo”的商标申请。
