标志的主体图案是里约热内卢著名景点面包山的造型。图案拼合成心的形状，代表巴西人对体育的热爱以及对奥运会的渴望。标志的颜色为巴西国旗上的绿、黄、蓝三色。这个申奥标志是由台湾设计师蔡仕伟设计。
